I heard that Alcoa manufactured the aluminum wheels on the dually trucks....have any of you ditched the ugly ford caps in favor of the Alcoa hardware will they worK?
Thanks
I've got a '99 and have heard the same thing about Alcoa.
I was thinking of Emailing them direct to find out.
There was someone on here that has done the Alcoa hardware (center caps and lug nuts) and it reportedly worked out well-gave his truck a whole other look-cost was near $300.00 as I recall-may be he will chime in and share more info.
I've got anouther question regarding these wheels: There seems to be a clear coat of some sort on them and I am wondering if IT can be removed and the aluminum polished up then re-cleared?? or???
Not sure about the coating on these...but I've used easy off oven clear to remove coatings on other aluminum wheels.....then buff then out.....as far as recoating ...I've tried it all from paint based clears to clear powder coating....nothing keeps them looking as good as polish and a GOOD coat of sealing wax.
I even tried having chrome over aluminum....last for a while....but looks like a chromed steel wheel....polished aluminum rocks.
Here's green transparent powder over polished aluminum....
Off topic, I think I saw this blue truck on Ebay couple of days ago or may be one just like that. Did you just buy it or were selling it?
Coming to Alcoa, yes, I have seen one if my memory serves well. Better yet would be to get 22.5 Alcoa with 36 inch tall tires (like semi trucks). They go really well but they cost about 5K with adapters, wheels and tires. Not to mention a lift kit would not hurt the looks...
