Are you trying to find something to fit or trying to identify a board that you might have or what? There was a couple of minor differences between the 48-early 50 tailgates and the later 50-52 tailgate. The main difference being where the chain and latch attach to the gate. The early ones are below the roll and the later ones are in the roll (or they might be the other way around)
Take a look in some of the vendors catalogs and they usually show the difference.
The outer frame of my tailgate was hammered so I cut the center out of my tailgate and fabbed the exterior frame stuff (see my gallery "poor boy tailgate")

1952 tailgate
thanks for replies i live in good old united kingdom
and 1952 ford truck bits are thin on the ground here
i got a cab, bed sides ,steps just looking at possibility of
maybe making the tailgate?at the moment trying to find some fenders
only wish i could get to some of your swap meets
