Leak out of fuel/water seperator

On my 1999 f350 7.3 i have fuel leaking out of the line for the fuel water seperator. i tried working the valve back and forth but it still leaks. Is the seperator itself bad?

More than likely it's the drain valve o-rings. Those really caused a lot of problems when ULSD first came out. Sounds like your truck is a "late bloomer".

Here's the o-ring specs: Type: Viton Width: 1/8" ID: 1/4" OD: 1/2"

Copied from a previous post from SpringerPop:
For ease, remove the "Powerstroke" cover.
Locate that yellow valve handle at the side closest to the firewall. This is the drain valve. Remember how the pieces are oriented for later re-assembly. Better yet, take a digital picture. There are four #20 Torx screws holding the valve to the filter body. Using the driver socket and ratchet, remove the four screws. Using a toothpick, pry the two little yellow o-rings out of where they fit. Replace them with the two you bought. Lube the threads on the four screws. Re-assemble and check for leaks. Replace the Powerstroke cover.
Have fun.

I had to replace mine last year....same problem, leaking at the O-ring. Not sure if it was due to the new ULSD fuel or not......but I'm guessing yes. Quick fix.....cost me less then $100 bucks at the shop even!

i am going to get the o-rings tomorow and try to replace them. Is the torx screws on top or on the back by the petcock?

There are 4 torx screws that hold the petcock assembly to the bowl. When you look behind the fuel bowl you'll see them.

A word of caution: Be VERY careful when re-tightening the drain valve assembly to the bowl. The threads can strip very easily.
