Would like some help and opinions please

I installed my EGR restrictor plate yesterday. Truck seems to have a little more Git up and go, and keep highway speed better. However a lttle bucking and jumping was noticed yesterday. It did not do it this morning. I still have an exhaust leak. The day before i put the plate in i took my buddy to autozone about 2 miles away from where we where. (his chebby had a starter go out ) The exhaust leak was not even heard, and the truck ran like a spurred horse. It actually pushed me back in the seat when i pushed the pedal 2/3 of the way down. (was an awesome feeling). On the way back the exhaust leak returned and truck went back to being normal. Could the exhaust leak be robbing me of that much power? The exhaust system is original. The cat is probably clogged up. The pipes are rotting and rusting. I need to replace the exhaust system soon. Any one know of high failure point where the exhaust would leak. Doesn't sound like one cylinder, sounds like all of them. I'm thinking it might be where the manifolds meet. As for the bucking and jumping and slight hesitation, i think the timing might be off. I know the little trick to unplug the dizzy from the computer. Question is what should the timing be set at? And where are the timing marks? I have yet to see them. Sorry for the long post, better to explain in detail than too little information. Any help would be appreciated.

could just be a blown exhaust manifold gasket.

The manifolds are known to crack at high mileage though.
