engine problems
I have an 86 f-150 extended cab,two tank truck.
Nothing is original, the I-beam,rear end, drive line,motor/trans,air,....etc... has all been replaced (5 times on motor).
I use this as a service truck, average about 35,000 miles a year, this truck has seen vegas, dallas, denver, memphis, and now oklahoma city.
Here is the problem no one seems to know.
A local shop replaced my timing chain (plastic gear tipped),distributor/module.
All the fuels pumps (3) I replaced,filters,pressure regulator..etc.
the injectors are fine.
The motor hesitates, backfires, and the timing chain rattles,if you replace the plugs, cap, and rotor it runs fine for about a week, but when you jump on it,it starts it again,I noticed the inside of the distributor cap has white trails where the rotor touches, the plugs get a black appearance as does the top of the rotor where it engages the cap.
I'm very mechanical, but for the life of me can't figure this one out, does anyone have a clue? or should I let Ford check it out?
I haven't changed the wires in awhile, and, when I did the a/c system I spilt a/c oil all over the coil, that makes sense, going to o-reilly now! thanks again!
