I was talking with a mechanic customer yesterday and he was saying they were gonna try and get pre 1985 vehicles off the road if they didn't have fuel injection. So I guess to have your vehicle licensed it would have to have fuel injection to be on the road.
Anyone else heard this? I don't know if it would apply to classic cars or heavy trucks. It wouldn't affect me but what are your thoughts on the subject?
I guess I should go into business doing conversions. Most single plain carb intake manifolds can be converted but some engines would be hard.
I havent heard of it, but to be honest with you i can see it coming. We all know fuel injection is more efficient burning, for the most part. So I bet they are starting to look at that, and this would be a perfect way to get alot of old beaters off of the road.
Instead of worry about fuel injection, they should make a vehicle pass a emissions test every year if they are truely worried about it. I would be against both, but it makes more sence to me.
I would be fighting tooth and nail for this to not happen though. Lets hope it just stays a rumour.
Well if they do the emission testing then all those catalytic converters have to go back on. Hell I'd put cats on my truck if I had to, sure it would be 2.5" ones on my dual 2.25"...

I really hate cats, but I would put them back on if we had to get our vehicles inspected. I would try out them high flow cats. The way I figure it, for the additional cost, they have to provide better flow!
I never heard of this. The only thing I been hearing is that by 2010 they are going to put a tax on used vehicles of 10 years and older. They are calling it an enviromental tax. To me another money grab.
All they have to do is in another 10 years you won't find very many carburated cars on the road. They should leave that one alone. Most vehicles since mid 80's and newre are fuel injected. By 1990 there was almost nil for carburated cars.
Right now most mid 80's cars are completeing their life. So there are getting to be less of them around. So this rumor should be left alone. The cars they are targeting are deminishing.
no way in hell they can do that. (well, they can do as they please i guess...). there is quite a few people still driving carburated vehicles because new vehicles are out of their budget. does that mean that they have to start using the bus??
the governments are milking this global warming bull**** for everything they can...environmental tax will soon be on bumwad...if not already, its rediculous... i hope it stays rumour!!!
I know the D.O.T is cracking down one vehicles in poor condition either mechanical or structural but haven't heard anything about that. The object is to get all unsafe vehicles off the road by 2010.
unsafe is one thing, that i'll agree with. if a vehicle is roadworthy...let 'er be. mile per mile, many carb'd trucks will do as good if not better than a lot of new trucks!!
I'm pretty certain they can not do that, people drive what they afford.
Very simple look at all the small town fire trucks, are all those gonna be pulled of the road or maybe they'll get every little town a brand new truck lol.
Think this is a story don't believe everything you hear.
Also what about F vehicles half or three quaters of the gas powered 3 tons are running off Holleys.
