Your OEM tire size is 275/65R20E (34.1x10.8x20) Max Load 3750, 609 revs/mile, mounted on 20" x 8" rims.
The 305/55R20E (33.2x12.1x20) Max Load 3195, 625 rev/mile
The 305/55R20 tires are recommended to be mounted on at least a 6-inch wide rim some have mounted them on 8.5" wide rims, but the use of 8-inch wide rims is Not recomended.
Yes you would have to recalibrate the PCM for the new tire size as the 305/55R20 would cause the speedometer to read fast by 2.6%.

Blackhat: that sounds small to me -- is that a typo? Did you mean 9 inch rims? I haven't checked myself mind you...

diesel_dan yes you are correct 9-inch, good catch.
Sorry guys, hit the wrong key and did not reread my post. should be 9-inch NOT 6-inch.
If you can find a 285/295 in your rim size, I'd think that'd fit. Try giving the guys (and gals) at Discount Tire Direct a call 1-800-589-6789 (www.discounttiredirect). When I was figuring out what size would fit and work best for me, they were very helpful in telling me what others had done (and what worked) with my same truck model. They also will beat anyone elses price and they have a deal with their storefronts to install them for a set price...
The OEM tires are pretty much as big as you can go without a levelling kit on your F250. With a levelling kit you could go up to a 315/60R20 (35x12.5R20). You will probably get a slight rub on the trailing arms or fender liners when you turn to the steering stops. You can usually go about 1/2" narrower than recommended rim widths on a tire without too much trouble (I have done this many times in the past, and currently run this way). I would never go much more than 1/2" though.
