I was backing into a parallel parking
spot when a guy in a caravan drives straight into the side of my truck. I've only had it for a week and a half.
It only made a tiny dent and scratched the clearcoat on the bed and behind the backseat door. I was parking at the police station (need a residential parking pass for the new truck).
The guy was from west Africa (or that was what his accient sounded like). He insisted he would fix the dent and paint himself. It is a small mark but I insisted on having an accident report filed out. In Vermont every accident needs a report filled out by an officer on the scene. I was parking at the police station, so it was not a long wait.
The guy actually told the officer I was in his "blind spot" (the one directly infront of his windscreen?) A Ford Super Duty is one of the largest private vehicles you can buy. How did he not see me?
Was I an a$$-hole for insisting on the report being filed? I didn't get angry but still he hit my 1.5 week old truck.
I would have got ugly over the incident. I would be leary of him fixing it unless he worked at a bodyshop. It might be a rattle can and bubble-gum for filler. You should see how some of those africans operate.
Nope....file the report, get YOUR insurance company to fix it (this is why you have insurance) and let Mr. Blind Spot deal with your insurance carrier.
He must be a graduate of the Ray Charles school of driving.
If he can't see a super duty he sure can't see how to fix a dent. get it done right, He hit you it should be his problem not yours. and no your not being an a$$-hole for wanting a report.
Goat i give you credit,I would've kicked his you know what all the way back to west africa. I have an 06 350 i ordered, and knock on wood has never been hit but i can't imagine it happenin. You definitely did the right thing. Like some of these guys said about his (body work) if he's tryin to snowball the cop and say your Super Duty was in his blind spot just imagine how he'd try to repair your rig. Go through insurance so it's done right and he's beat. It's his fault, not yours man!!

MADE MY DAY ! wow thank you !
But yes, agreed with the other guys, definately, good idea, its your baby and you dont want some Joe makin it even worse .. who knows .. he could always sabotage it while your gone too ... Bring it to someone who knows what there doing and get it done right !
P.S Ive never been hit in my super duty knock on wood ... but my mom on the other hand ... Bought her a brand new 2002 Subaru WRX for her birthday .. lets just say its not asthetically pleasing anymore!
DO NOT LET HIM REPAIR YOUR TRUCK!!! You paid (or are still paying) for the truck you wanted....why would you let some guy you know nothing about (other than he's got vision problems to begin with!) repair your week and a half old truck?
Quit trying to be a nice guy....call your insurance company. Chances are they'll find out the guy HAD NO INSURANCE.

Good Luck Pal!
Joe
AGREED...It's his absolute stupidity that caused this, let him pay for it.
Sorry this had to happen, makes me nervous that I'm taking delivery of an '08 as soon as Ford sees fit to build it.
I have a fire engine red F450 crew cab and people are constantly cutting me off or trying to move over on me and share my lane. How can they miss seeing a bright red monster is beyond me.

I've seen a few car accidents where the people in the car that got hit had a semi in there blind spot, it happens, some how.
