If your truck has RKE then yes, you can buy a key fob off of Ebay and program it yourself. The process is super easy. When you get out of the truck and when you push the lock button on the door and then close it do your parking lights blink? If so then you probably do have RKE. If that is the case buy a key fob and come back and we will help you program it. It takes about 5 minutes to do, is super easy and the dealer will charge you about a hundred bucks. Ebay fobs are about 8 or 9 dollars.
As for the speakers...I run 5 x 7 Alpines in all four of my doors. They are powered by an Alpine head unit and there's also an Infinity 10" BassLink in the back. Not sure if you could put 6 x 9's in there but you could always ask the guys at Best Buy and they can probably tell you.
You could make the 6x9s fit but it would require you modifing the opening to make it fit. With 6x8s or 5x7s, you will not have to modify anything and the existing mounting holes will match up. Do you already have 6x9s? if not just save the time and get a good set of 6x8s and be done.

I would say your best bet would be to get 6.5's. Round speakers will always sound better then an oval speaker. Its a misconception that the bigger a speaker is the better or louder it is. If I had a vehicle that came stock with 6x9's I would replace them with 6.5s if I was upgradeing.
How Do You Reprogram The Key Fob???
I Just Purchased Two More Off Ebay And Don't Have A Clue How To Program Them
Thanks
Here ya go. This is a pdf file so you have to have Adobe to view it but this is the owners manual for my truck. Yours is probably programmed the same way. My dad's truck is an '05 and his is the same as mine.
Click the link and then scroll down to page 62.
Let me know if it doesn't work for you and I will type them out.
6x9s *could* be made to fit, but here's the problems you'd have to overcome:
1. Hold size - you'd probably have to cut the door to fit the bigger speaker
2. Depth - the bigger speaker will be deeper and may hit your window
3. Power - if you don't have an amp, the 6x9's may be too power-hungry for your head unit
How to overcome these issues? For 1 & 2 you could build out your door panel, cut it and make a custom panel/enclosure to hold the speaker out further from your door. $$$$$ #3 is fixed by an amp
So the question then is how much work are you willing to do? Either to do it yourself, or to earn the money to have it done for you?
Sometimes links will not work from this site. Not sure why. If you want the link I can get it to you via e-mail. Just shoot me a PM with an address and I will send it to you.
Scott, This is not a solution to anything just an observation. On my '01 when I use the door lock and then close the door my parking lights do not blink. I do have the remote. A change in '02 maybe? Just wondering if someone may know.
my truck doesnt do that but i got a buddy who has an 01 and his doesnt either.maybe a way to deactivate the flashin lights that previous owners may have turned them off?does anyone know where the transmitter box is?
when I programmed my fob...get in truck shut doors..turn key to on no start and back off 5 (some trucks i have heard 4 ) times stopping in the on position..locks will automatically lock and un lock them selves.you have 20 sec to push each fob to be programmed including the fob that is working now.you need to reprogram that as well ...turn key to of position and fobs should work...
