whats wrong now?

2 weeks ago i changed my fuel tank front and rear. both were leaking bad but ran fine. so filled front tank and sending units not working went 115 miles ran out of fuel, no big deal just pain in the ***. filled front tank ,filled rear tank and switched to rear. ran 75 miles acted like it ran out of fuel, switched to front and cranked still no start, so switched back to rear, started, drove 20 miles to closest station and filled ran fine whole way and no prob since, wtf still air in line or some other prob?

Assuming that the gauges and senders were working before the change I would double check the electrical connections especially the ground. Are the new tanks ABS (plastic)???

I wonder if you have a leak in the new tanks, or, a leak at one of the fuel lines. You didn't mention how many gallons you put into the tanks. Maybe you didn't completely fill the tanks.

Could be a kink in one or more lines. If the sending units aren't working properly, maybe the connections came loose or are not making good contact. Maybe you have the wires reversed so when you switch to the "front" tank you're really running on the "rear" tank, and vice-versa.

both tanks are steel. front unit worked when i took it out but doesn't now rear unit i had never tried tank was so bad. i always ran it on the front tank with the switch on front tank. when i filled both tanks front took around 17 gallons and the rear around 15. when i ran out with the front tank it took 9 gallons, when i ran out with the rear i got it started and drove another 20 miles to get fuel it then took 11 gallons, could it be bad conections and the fuel lines sucking air?

did it again this morning. i ran this truck all day sat. parked it last night full of fuel. started this morning let it idle 5 min or so, and took off down the road, started dying in exactly th esame place, it quit, cranked and cranked finally started and i drove it around for an hour. could i still have air in the lines from running out of fuel or do i have something else going on?

drive it again, when it dies dont crank it. pull the fuel filter cap and see if there is any fuel in the housing
