The fake O2 sensors are for later model pickups. 96 and on. The reason they work there is that there are two sensors. The first one is before the cat and is used to manage the engine's air fuel ratio. Just like your truck. The second is after the cat, and it was put there as part of a fed goverment requirement to stop the removal of cat converters. It serves no real function for the truck. So If you remove your cat, you need the fake one to lie to the computer to tell it the cat is still there.

>tell it the cat is still there.
Lie is such a strong word! Those of us in the aftermarket prefer to say that they simulate what the downstream 02's would do if the cat was still in place.
1st I've heard of fake O2 sensors. The explantion as good and I understand the reason for them. Do the national auto stores carry these fake 02 sensors?
I don't know of any that are specific to the F-series. You will probably have to build your own out of someone else's part. Any company that makes an offroad H pipe for the mustang should sell them, and they could be easily modified to work on a truck. Why not just put high flow cats on it? They aren't a restriction and will make it sound much smoother.
