i can get a 460 from a 90's f250 with efi but is it better to go over to a carb setup? what is involved in switching over? new intake and heads??? not sure if the wiring and brain are intact
yes you have to switch the heads and intake over to a carbed version from efi. the efi heads intake ports won't line up with a carb manifold and i am not aware of anyone making a carb intake for the efi heads.
the only problem you might run into is pushrods. once you have the heads on make or buy an adjustable pushrod to get the correct lenght of pushrods for your combo. Ford changed block heights and head configurations over the years so getting the correct lenght pushrods is mandatory for your combo.
to make your own, take an old pushrod, cut about 1/2" out of the middle, drill and tap the centre for i think a 1/4" bolt (double check that once you have the pushrod cut, it might be bigger or smaller) and you have an adjustable pushrod checker.
they make an aluminum adapter plate so you can bolt up a carb right on the efi lower intake, just remove the snorkle efi top intake with the throttlebodies,,,,and drop a duraspark dizzy in ,no more ecm ,efi goes bye bye,,,will need a c6 tranny, other trans need the ecm ,there is probably a way around that too

A carbed set-up will require a distributor with advance weights, springs, and a vacuume advance to control your timing.
If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:
