I have an 89 2WD F250HD that I purchased new. It has 65,000 miles, 3 speed AT and 4.10 rearend. I pull an 8000# 5th wheel. In an effort to improve performance, I have added a K&N air filter, high energy ignition, Doug Thorley headers and Gibson flow through exhaust. I also added a Gear Vendor overdrive in an effort to maintain RPMs while pulling up hill. I live in So.Cal. and every time I go over the Grapevine, I fight with 18 wheelers for the number 3 lane.
Can anyone think of what else might be done to improve hill climbing performance?
I also am not sure about the overdrive thing, but check out www.bankspower.com they have alot of stuff from tranny chips to all out power kits. I've read alot about them and I'm looking forward to giving them some $$$.
read up on thje gear vendors aux trans. Have you tried split shifting you may just be running it with the od in all the time and that will definitely kill acceleration.
I realized a day or so after I posted my original message that I forgot to mention something very important. AFter I had the performance exhaust installed at 48,000 miles, I went over the Grapevine with no sweat. If I was slowed by traffic, I recovered easily. The Gearvendor was installed long before the performance exhaust. Now with 65,000 miles, I feel like I'm back to the stock exhaust. Do you think the catalytic converter has collapsed? My most recent emission's test showed everything in the OK area.
