I finally got my Pioneer Z2, and am planning to install it tomorrow. While reviewing the instructions, it requires a wire form the unit be attached to the "vehicles speed indicator" line. I have no idea what or where that might be, according to the manual the GPS won't be as accurate if this wire is not attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well the unit is in the dash, it took about 4 hours once I got the correct adptr. plug which turned out to be the Scosche FD-16 not the FD-23. There was no VSS type wire leading to the old radio, just spkrs.,power, and lights, so I used Blackhat's info (thanks a lot) and hooked into the VSS wire above the emergency brake. The Pioneer Z2 does not "just slip into the radio opening as I was told, so the Dremel had to come out and I had to remove the 1/4 inch lip lip on the top and bottom of the opening. Other than hooking into the emergency brake,VSS, and reverse wires the instal is straight forward. As the truck sits in my driveway everything seems to wrok perfectly. The GPS shows my on my street, right where my house should be, and that's just when i first powered it up!. The audio is better than stock. Today I button up the truck's dash, floor panels, rubber grommet behind rear seat, and I should be good to go. This unit is incredible, can't wait to head to Florida, without a single map, etc. Once again thaks Blackhat620 for the help.
I have the Pioneer D3, and I love his this I'm still trying to figer it all out....LOL I have nav, DVD, backup camera, 2 sat. radio set and a sat traffic info set up and hands free phone.
They are anywhere from $1450.00 to $2100.00. I paid $1590, including a 3yr wrnty. The Z-2 is a GPS, DVD, CD, AM, FM, and a host of other stuff that requires a ton of reading to use all the functions this thing will do, as Dogman knows. The exact Model is called AVIC Z-2 Pioneer.
Believe me, as a retired detective that concern was first and foremost in my mind. Here's my formula for what i hope to be a theft free (not proof) ownership.
1. Tinted Windows
2. Entry alarm
3. Kill switch
4. Digital Photo actual size of stock radio, it fits perfectly over the Z-2
5. Throw down- Sirius Sportster velcrowed to dash (for the the GPS antenna) visible outside.
6. My baby monitor alarm inside the truck.
7. I rarely park the truck out of my sight, and when i do, I have already scoped the lot for potential crooks, good parking spaces etc.
8. Last but not least, Colt .45 in my belt.
If you have to park your truck for a long period of time (all night) away from your residence such as apartment parking etc. the odds are not in your favor to keep the truck from getting broken into. The crooks know the truck will be there every night, and they have time to figure away around your alarm. However, the key is to convince the crooks there is nothing in your truck worth stealing, thats where hiding or covering, the unit comes in. When I am parked in a lot during the day, with my sunshade in place and my medium tinted windows, it is hard to tell just what I have in the truck, what they see is an old Sirius Sportster on the dash top, that knowbody wants anymore, and what looks like a stock radio (didital photo) in the dash. I would never leave the truck without somehow covering the unit. Mike 1646, I did not get the steering wheel adaptor, because i felt it would be a dead give away to the crooks that there is a Z-2 or equivalent in the truck. Effective theft pervention is like national defense "multi-layered", crooks aren't rocket scientists, they can be out-smarted.My next project is to figure out a way to conceal the satellite antenna, you can't paint them, so that black little cube sticks out like a sore thumb on my white truck.
I hope you have better luck than me, mine didn't last 3 months before it got stolen.
some guy tried to get mine the other week, But he got carried away by the Paramedics and the cops... There are other ways to use a claw hammer on feet.
On top of that the radio has a lock out. So if it gets stolen they can't use it. They have to get with pioneer to unlock it and when they run the SN# it comes back stolen and I also inset the radio to the point that they have to take the dash off to get to it, Plus I made a block out plate for it, so it looks like the radio has already be stollen out of the truck.
something I did in my truck was I took a small piece of fabric, velcro'd it to the dash just under the dash mat, so it's not visible while I'm driving, but when I park....I pull it out, and it flips down perfectly and covers the stereo deck and EQ. Visibility is the worst thing for thieves! If they can't see it......they are reluctant to chance breaking in, they will move along to a "sure thing" on another vehicle that they can clearly see everything. Cost me a few bucks to do this.
