New 2008 F250 Diesel

I personally have a V-10 but the reading I've done here and on other sites suggests around 13-15 initial MPG. After break-in the numbers should climb a little.
One word of caution in regards to the new 6.4 Powerstroke, 6.7 Cummins, and 6.6 Duramax. These engines have some complex new emission equipment on them. Some people have had issues while others have not. I suggest being really honest with yourself as to whether you need a diesel pickup. I previously owned 3 different Dodge/Cummins pickups with the most recent being a 2004. They were great trucks and contrary to popular belief I had no major problems with them. However, when I ordered my F-350 I chose the V-10 for several reasons.
1. Price of diesel is as high or higher than gas nowadays.
2. I personally feel the new emission systems dislike short trip driving and will most likely be problematic in these settings.
3. All the big three truck builders are having some issues with this new emission technology.
4. After selling my fifth wheel I cut way back on my actual towing miles and figured the V-10 would be fine for the occasional heavy pull.
Please don't think I'm suggesting how you spend your hard earned money I'm just pointing out that the days of simple diesel engines running on cheap diesel fuel are gone.
Good luck with whatever engine you choose and welcome to FTE.

First off, welcome to the site. Second what is the reason you're stepping up to at 250? I would say annual miles driven, how long you plan on keeping the truck, towing/hauling practices, and good ole fashion I really want one, have more to do with a new diesel purchase then MPG's. Also remember driving habits play a large role in MPG's.
There have been seveal postings on this down in the 2008 diesel forum. You might read up on those, but running empty in a 250 with 3.73's I don't think you'd drop down to 7 - 8 mpg unless you spent the whole time at WOT.

I get 14-15 empty on the highway w/ 5.4l and 10-12 w/ boat. I was hoping to pick up some by going w/ 250. I have 3.55 limited slip in 150 and i have encountered some tranny issues. i think my torqe converter is needs to be changed. I do not expect to get 20mpg on highway , hell i would be happy w/ what I get in the 150 if i could acheive it in the 250. I just have never had any experience w/ a diesel before. just want to make wright choice.

The older the diesel you get the better the mileage. The newer you get the more power you have. I don't have any 08's but I'd guess a 250 with 3.73 will get close to the same mileage you're getting now, but once you hook up that boat you'll just need to glance in the rear view mirror once in a while so you don't forget the boat is back there.

get the deisel, you will love it. my new one gets 16 empty and abuot 11 mpg pulling 21 ft. boat at 75 to 80 mph.. my 04 gasser could never do that and what a difference in power.. Ive got 5200 miles now and hoping the mpg will go up with more mls.
