What's wrong with the big huge letters? They're my favorite part.
NPD sells repro tailgates for 87-96 without the letters for $250 with the handle and latches and all hardware. You'd just have to paint it to fit. The repros don't come with the predrilled holes for the "bright" center bit that has the FORD or blue oval on it.
You can pick up a tailgate from a truck newer than yours (until 96) from a wrecker that'll fit but you'd have to remove the center bit and fill the mounting holes.
Is this more to your liking? I believe the cover is aftermarket, but it was on the truck when I got it so I have no way of knowing. Its the same style as the broncos had but without the keyhole in it.
I dont like the letters or the trim crap on the tailgate......thats why I removed the trim...next I will fill the holes and put on decal or have something airbrushed on the back. my tailgate did look like mrl390's.
Ok good, so Im not the only one with the logo and not the letters. I have never seen any other pickups with the logo and not the letters so I figured it was aftermarket.

That panel isn't aftermarket. I had the body shop order a new one from Ford Parts three years ago and that is the same one that I got with a Ford part number. And there is someone on this forum that bought their truck new and it had this same type of trim panel on the tailgate from the factory.
What are the dimples at the four corners of your panel??
Probably how the PO attached it, if it wasn't there original.. hmm.. Also; I love the semi-subtle ford across the back. Personal preference, I guess. I think it'd look too plain without them.

Those are 4 stainless bolts that hold the panel on. The PO must have either replaced that panel, or it fell off and it was the only way he could keep it on. I dont mind them cause they almost look like they are supposed to be there.

I wouldnt worry about them neither. You have a good looking truck!!
