Chevron has the advertisement on the pumps that states
"Chevron Corporation was the first U.S. gasoline marketer to have its gasoline approved as meeting the performance criteria set by BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota for "TOP TIER Gasoline."
Looks like all the auto makers are in bed with at least one of the gas co's.

Even top-tier gas varies it seems. My F250 doesn't like gas from QuikTrip (causes spark knock) while it has no problem with Conoco/Phillips.
My wife's Suburban doesn't seem to mind fuel from either place.

BP profits. In bed with each other make "engineering leaps" in engine fuel economy that leave continued profits for the oil tycoons. Someone needs to pay ayyention to those "engineering leaps" overseas where gas is $7.00/gal.
I live downwind of BP's "newest" plant in the US. We also paid the highest gasoline prices in Washington State (at one time almost $3.60/gal). The BP Spokesman indicated the reason why the fuel was so expensive as the fuel (once refined) had to be trucked to Seattle for the proper "additives". For awhile, BP thought they actually pull that one off. Guess they finally came off their high and realized it wasn't working.
We have many Canadians come down for cheaper gasoline. That does drive the prices up, but when 35 miles down the interstate is to $2.19 earlier this summer, one has to ask WTF?
Once the elected officials received enough chaff, they started to contact the Washington State Attorney's Office to investigate.
Guess what???
Yeap... prices came down without much fanfare.
Roller Coaster....
p.s. - It's back up to $2.90/gal.
