Tow light adapter?????

I own a 2005 Ford escape without tow package. I added an aftermarket tow hitch and purchased the piggy back cable from ford for the lighting. Ford told me there was an adapter behind the bumper and all i needed to do was plug in this cable and it would work. Well it didnt. There apparently is no power going to this adapter. I have called about 5 Ford dealerships and noone in their service departments has any clue what the hell I am talking about. I see alot of people have had this problem, did anyone cure it on a 2005. Will a HD flasher really solve my problem??? Can i buy that piece anywhere and install it myself instead of being had at a dealership where they want $76 for the flasher?

Who installed your hitch? I have had good experience with U-Haul centers when it comes to wiring and hitches.

The last time I self-installed a hitch I went to U-Haul and had them take care of the wiring.

Not sure what you plugged your wiring harness into, but if it was the factory installed trailer wiring, you will also need to install a fuse in the panel. Check your owners manuel for the location. I had a complete system installed, including electric brake controller, and have had no problems.

You'll need the heavier relay. Cost me less than that at RockAuto.

Towing

If you have seperate turn signals with brake lights you need a modulite modulator for your trailer wiring.. There about $30. That's what I needed for my 07. I've had the same small wiring from the dealer and it was a was of money. Just get the wiring modulator.. Some even come with circuit protection too, the only hard part was running a power wire to the battery.. Just take the power wire and cable tie it to something along the bottem of the car something that doesn't get hot, I use the brake line and haven't had a problem.
