I found this:
Biodiesel is subject to algae growth as water accelerates microbial growth and is naturally more prevalent in biodiesel fuels than in petroleum-based diesel fuels. Care must be taken to remove water from fuel tanks. A special algaecide for diesel can be added to the fuel to inhibit algae growth.

TJ: From what I have been reading you probably have algae in your tanks as well. What ever it is that you use to combat this crap I would also assume that you will also have to chang your filter again in the very near future.

Boy....I really feel like a big turd giveing YOU advice.

TJ:The web for BioBor JF is www.mstechinc.com/ It is really great reading. This stuff is used in everything including airplanes. (I didn't know that we had diesel airplanes) 16oz. bottle will treat 800 gallons. It sells for $17.95 for the 16 oz bottle plus shipping.

Yes, when I discovered it I use Bio-Con from Napa. Had this issue once in my 95 and two bottles at $3 a piece solved the issue. Each bottle treats 50 gallons. So I dump one bottle in each tank for a shock treatment then the next fill up I split a bottle between the two. in about 3k I will change the filter again.

Thanks for the advice and link guys!

As CudaJim stated in post 17, algea in diesel fuel comes as a direct result of water in the fuel. Adding biocide all of the time can get expensive. Plus, it is only a treatment for the symptoms of the illness, and not the root cause. I would suggest you add some form of water remover as well, and then try to use practices that would minimize the infiltration of water. One easy way is too top of your tanks fequently. During the fall and spring months water enters fuel all the time from condensation due to temperature change. The fuller the tanks are, the less surface area there is for condensation to form. If you eliminate the water...........you WILL eliminate the algea.
I have a lot of experience combatting algea with the company I work for. We even have a fuel polishing setup that we run off an air compressor that we take out and polish fuel for other companies when they start to have fuel quality problems.

I have run 1 full fill up thru it now and I have seen 1 mpg increase but I also added diesel Kleen at the same time and that usually see a good increase in mileage. I need to run a few more fill ups to be know for sure. I have seen a large decrease (2 mpg) in the last 2 months. so hopefull thats part of it.

Miker thanks for the info. Good stuff.

I did my dads and he had never cleaned the fpr screen and around 20,000 on the filter. We took it out and replace the littled heater element thing that was bs, it looked like a the bottom of a can with a wire soddered to it in three spots with a plug...we live in Texas but he still wanted to replace. When we took it out under it was like black sryup and stop up the drain line. We made a tool to take that tube off before and found out it had reverse thread, almost was a close one. But ya cleaning the screen and new filter helped more than I thought.
