any ideas, I keep getting 4x4 high and 4x4 low lights flash 6 times every 2 minutes. upon starting up explorer and making a turn you feel 4x4 is engaged have the three way selector on dash auto, 4 high, and 4 low. pulled off shift motor moves when you select 4 low and goes back when you turn ****. changed transfer case fluid, cleaned both HALE sensors, and changed computer behind radio. the only that works is pulling #10 fuse, but then I lose lights and 4x4 but it's not locked in 4x4. I keep reading similar threads on here what am I missing? thanks in advance.
Matt
just changed front diff. gear oil still no luck. can't seem to find replacement hale sensors is that what there called? anybody, help, please.
Thanks,
Matt
Your symptoms indicate that the clutch pack in the T/C case is dragging, only 2 conditions will manifest like this,
Either there is power on the brown wire going into the T/C, or the fluid is sticking the clutch plates together. The T/C shoud be filled with A/T fluid, (no gear oils)
If the symptoms go away when the fuse is pulled I would be looking at the electromagnetic clutch (brown wire)...for stray voltage, check with VOM meter.
The 4Hi-4Lo switch activates the shift motor to change the range and lock the clutch, has no connection with this problem.
