4.0 SOHC hesitates and hiccups on take off

I tried cleaning the MAF's hot wire with contact cleaner, it helped a bit but still the motor hiccups when I floor it at the stop ligth, everything is OK, after the hesitation it revs up smoothly and has great top end power, I've been trough all posibilities and found nothing wrong, mine's a 1998 XLT, my friend's '99 Elite does exactly the same thing, so does my brother's '95 OHV.

Is this thing "normal" on explorers?? any help please?

Augusto.

The TPS sensor is usually responsible for injecting fuel during accelleration. It mimic's the carb acellerator pump. If thats not the problem then its prob a fuel pump, filter related issue. Have you tried inj cleaner.

When was your last complete tune up. There could be a lot of contributing factors coming into play here, but the most common culprits is worn plugs, and lazy sensors. The MAF , TPS, and O2 sensors all play a major role. If the O2 sensors have more than 80,000 miles you may want to replace them just as preventative maintenance. It might improve economy a little bit as well. Don't forget about the fuel and air filters either.

no CEL ligth
no codes stored
all sensors OK
new plugs, filters etc

I read somewhere in the web that the hot wire in the MAF sensor develops a patina wich impairs it's ability to sense airflow, they reccomended cleaning the wire with contact cleaner, it improved somewhat but the problem still persist.

thanks

Augusto.
