I've been told that a pickup with documented with full Ford dealer's service records can get a better trade in value. Has anyone else heard of/experienced this?
I ask because I'm about 100 miles overdue an oil change. So far the dealer that I bought the pickup from has done all of the servicing, and I've kept the reciepts. If the dealership here in Stillwater can't change my oil tomorrow I'm going to purchase the oil and filters and do it myself when I get back home. (another 140 miles)
That got me wondering about the resale value and I thought I would get some opinions. Timely oil changes are more important to me than resale value right now, but it got me thinking.
No it doesn't matter. Trade-in is based on the year, number of miles, options, and visual condition of the vehicle. The dealerships wants you to believe what they are telling you so that you will bring your truck to them for all services. It won't get you a dime more on trade-in.

......
....you will however contribute greatly to your dealer's bottom line!!!
After having the dealer change the fuel filter once I noticed that they make one helluva profit. My dealer charges $90 for a fuel filter change. Thats insane. I think I'm gonna make a trip to Pep Boys and start doing it all myself. That is robbery in my book.
It is insane. However, I don't believe you can get the fuel filters (two of them) at Pep-Boys. Best bet is an IH dealer (check the price), or order them:
If you order from Santex ($30.69), you will need to get the phone number from the web site and order by phone. There was recent post for another web site that would get you a set of filters for around $30 (plus shipping). I will try to find it.
Keep in mind you can document oil changes when you do them yourself. I keep a notebook with receipts from oil purchase (has the date on it) document the mileage and also include upc codes from oil and fuel filters in the notebook.
I do agree that it won't affect trade in value though.
Bismic, I have to drive to OKC to go to Pep Boys, so I was going to go by a IH dealer there. Dittos on the Go Cowboys! Where are you located?
I planned on keeping receipts and everything from the change, just so I'll have them. If I ever decide to just sell the pickup outright, I think the documented oil changes could help get more out of it. I do agree that it won't help trade in value, I had just heard the opposite and wondered if there was anything to it.
