I'm finally finding some time to work on the truck again... one more piece (the rear end) to clean up and prep for paint..
I got my front suspension parts back from the powder coaters today...
Xpress Powder outside of Nashville, Tn
here's what they did
first three are group shots last shot is a close up of the finish.. I'm pleased with them except for one knick that was not there when I sent them. But I can turn it down and no one will see... finish is called xtreme chrome and doesn't need a clear coat over it. (how did they ever spell in the old days without an "X" in front of words ???)
total cost 290.00 plus shipping. I think they ripped me on shipping, I sent them to them for 19 bucks, their return ship cost was nearly 50. That's another discussion for when they call back.
Thats something that never crossed my mind as a possibility. It seems to me that the powder coat would crack when flexed.
But then again I know squat about powder coating.
Maybe I'm about to get an edumacation on PC
I had heard that some of the powder coaters were doing the chrome finish but had never seen it and expected a far less quality finish than what your showing. They actualy look great!
John, I knew you would like the finish on the parts. I have had my rear bumper for 5 months or so now and have been washing, waxing and scrubbing some exhaust stains off of it and been happy. Then I had a small booboo so I put some 2000 wet on it and it buffed out as new. Still looks new and shiny. Maybe the coater had to pack/wrap exrta ( Xtra) good to avoid damage?? They do that to justify the Xtra frofit and call it S&H.........Looks great, can't wait to see them on the chas.
Jon
Are you sure you are sticking with this front suspension this time?
I am doing some (part time-temporary) CAD work for a company that makes fence parts. They do aluminum die casting and they have a powder coating setup (as well as galvanizing) on the premisis. I love to go out and watch them do the powder coating on my lunch break.
Unfortunately, they do green and brown. At least that is all I have seen in the last couple of months. It is a neat process to watch though.
I have not seen the local industrial powder coater doing chrome yet.
John, the parts look really good. I like the look of powdercoating and it's very durable, which is nice. Is that the chrome version of powdercoating that you did on your parts? I'm trying to see the difference in price between chrome plating and powdercoating. I like the color you have and wouldn't mind doing my front grill in that color. I'm afraid to ask the price though.... Nice job John.
