I have just bought a 48' Ford F1. Frame, cab, and hood is in good shape, But it didn't come with the front fenders and a bed. I have ordered a LMC catalog for my truck. Is there any other websites that you guys know of? I've done some searching on Google. But kinda looking for some people that have dealed with other sites and had good services. Any help would be great. Thanks
There's Blue Oval truck Parts, Dennis Carpenter or Mid fifty Parts just to name a few. I know other folks on here will have alot more information on finding parts also. Good luck with your resto.
You're not going to find after marker supplier of metal fenders for this year of F1; there are fibreglass suppiers. The fenders are one of the hardest parts to source. Beds are readily available from suppliers; different bed style for 48-49, early 50 than later years.
There are tons of vendors out there for a variety of parts. Most of them will send you a free catalog and I highly recommend getting them. Alot of the catalogs have exploded views of alot of the assemblies that are invaluable.
As Tom said, the fenders are the hardest to find as they are unique to the F1's, the F2's and up have larger wheel openings. A fellow member, bobj49f2 has a great parts interchange guide on his website. I'll see if I can dig up the link and post it later along with some other truck related links.
You have alot of options on the bed. If you are tryin to retain original styling then you will need to find a 48-early 50 bed that has the bumped out bedsides and rounded stake pockets. You could always fab your own bed as Tom is doing. I chose to add a late model bedfloor to my 49. Iused the front panel and bed floor from a 2005 GMC (pics in gallery)
Why buy new if used will do. I purchased a complete used bed for $100. It is from a 53 so sides are flat and pockets are square but I wil be doing soem mods and re-welding the fenders to the replacement bed sides. I priced out a set of sides up here in Canada for a 48 and cost was $1600 so I figured that I could better spend that else where on the truck since I am an doing a rod not a restoration.
There is also Mar-K and Pros Pick but I have no experience with either of these two.
Thanks for everyones post. Will Go and check out the sites. I did run into a guy at work he had an old 53' hood in the back of his truck. I talked with him for a few mins and he was telling me that he has a 53' ford 6ft bed he wants $100.00. He says the tailgates rough. I'm going to try to meet up with him and check it out. So all and all the fenders are the biggest difference. As far as looking original but not 100% restored.
You may be able to find fenders also. The biggest thing in keeping costs low for this stuff is not to be in a big hurry. Take your time look around, start dropping hints that you are looking for parts in your area post some want ads on bulletin boards through out your area and stop and talk to the guy that has a 53...chances are that he knows where to find used parts for your 48.
There was a guy out of Laverkin Utah that I bought a front clip off of. I'll try to find his website. He had lots of great projects (he owns an old bone yard)
Here is the website for the guy in La Verkin Ut. He has some doors and a hood listed. I bought a complete front clip off of them a few years back. It was just as he said it was. I am pretty happy with it and would deal with Rex again. The only thing is the shipping. The guy that delivered it didn't like to drive on highways so he took all back roads and state routes to go from La Verkin Ut to Brunswick Oh, so if you have them deliver it for you make sure it isn't needed ASAP. It took about 1 1/2 weeks to get here. But they are real nice people.
My 48 F-3 didn't come with rear fenders or a bed and the front fenders and running boards were toast. Since F-3 body parts are too hard to find and not re-produced I converted it to an F-1. I got my front and rear fenders from Bebops and the bed from ProsPick. I've been happy with both purchases. Check them out...
