I have a 391 in a L700 truck and would like to convert it to electonic ignition. Were can I get information on this conversion, wiring diagrams distributer etc.
Free- there used to be available from ford a conversion kit that let you put duraspark guts in a points dist. if you can't find that you will need a 391 or 361 FT duraspark distributer from a salvage yard. I would recommend the standard motors LX101 control box rather than the ford module, less wires to hook up. You must use an FT distributer because the FE units use a smaller diameter shaft. Some guys like the Pertronixs unit for ease of install. DF
Dino thanks for the info, I didn't know ford made a duraspark for a 391. Pertronix sounds like the way to go but they don't list a kit for my distributor, mine is a 1978 model. thanks again.
Try comparing your distributor with a regular points unit for an FE. What, if any, are the differences? I'll bet they're just the same and that the Pertronics unit will fit your FT. I'm obviously not positive it'll fit, but it would seem highly likely.

i just posted these links over on the old truck forum, but guess it won't hurt to cross-post...
if, as i've been told, the upper half of all v-8 distributors are the same, you should be able to put in a ford electronic ignition without too much trouble. i'm going to the junkyard to pull parts for my upgrade this week.
the second link shows you how to upgrade a points distributor to electronic.
