Here lately, my 93 Ranger (138k miles) has been making alot of noise from the front end. After I drive it a while and it warms up, the front end really makes loud, deep squeaking and popping sounds when you turn it. Also, over small pavement irregularities and over bouncy roads, it just squeaks and pops the whole time. Also, if are turning left and hit a pothole, it makes a big CLUNK that you can feel in the steering wheel.
I have checked the radius arm bushings and they are fine. What else could it be?
Wrap some electrical tape around your driveshaft then tie it to the frame go for a drive
in 2wd and if the tape is ripped, one of the hubs could be engaged or there is a lot of
parasitic drag in the system. Whens the last time the bearings got grease?
x2 ball joints
or it could be the wheel bearings/bearing locknuts. Mine did the same a while back both spindle nuts were cracked and the ball joints were worn.
I agree with the wheel bearings. my 97 (121000mi) was making a loud noise as you explain and popped occasionally too. I did the bearings and brakes while i was there and it stopped. Has never sounded so quiet before.
