For the diesels, Rotella is my choice. I don't know if they have it State-side or not but there is a 15-40 Rotella-T that is considered a truck oil and therfore it still has a zinc additive that was banned from auto oils.

Should I make the jump to synthetic? Is full syn better than part syn? Mobil 1 vs Castrol full syn vs Castrol part syn? I'll probably be driving about 10K per year. I generally change every 4-6K, which happens to be about 2x per year.

If you decide to use synthetic,, which prefer to use in my Corvette and Mercedes I would only change the oil every 10000 to 12,000 miles. I would not change at 5 to 6000. Many on line studies show that this oil is good over 14000 miles. But this is not blended synthetic, but the full synthetic.

There are many confusing lables such as Mobile Long life oil. Not the same as Mobile 1 synthetic.

If you decide to use a 10w30 mineral oil this is ok,, changing at 5 to 6000 miles. I don't like to change oil nor worry about waste disposal so synthetic cuts my work in half. When I had 4 vehicles running I was changing oil every 3 to 4 weeks. With synthetic it dropped to 1 / car every 6 months. So my work was reduced not to mention all the waste oil I had to carry to disposal. The cost of the oil for synthetic vs. mineral given extended oil changes is about a wash but my efforts are reduced. So your choice. But if it were mine I would use Mobile 1 10w30 or 10w40 in the engine and drive on.

Kevin, if i were u i would switch to royal purple. It protects the engine alot better then mobil one. Its only 50 cents more a quart and if u do it your self it is worth it. I did and it also uses less oil. I also dont do the 4 to 6k interval. I do it every 3k

I also use Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic. My 2000 v10 manual said 5w30, but i called mobil 1 and they said 5w20. My truck has a little over 105000 mi on it and it uses a quart or a little more every oil change (7500 mi intervals)

As far as royal purple vs mobil 1, I think the difference is pretty much nil. Both are very high quality, full synthetic oils. Basically i think its kind of whichever makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. I know guys that swear by royal purple, but I also know that porsche and a couple of major automakers recommend and come from the factory with mobil 1. I can't imagine it makes any difference in real life...

My Corvette and Mercedes both came with Mobile 1 and labels on the engine to use Mobile 1.

Sounds like I switch to Mobil 1 full syn - readily available at Wally World.. and change every 10K. Hmm.. but.. if I change every 5K, that includes a filter change.. so now at 10K I'm changing my filter 1/2 as often. I use the Motorcraft 820S.

Since I drive about 10K a year.. might I be better using non syn and changing 2x a year? Is time really a factor in oil? Or is usage?

What weight? Specified 5w20? or a little heavier.. 5w30.. 10w30??

Dont use 10w30. The people in the v-10 forum say that the 10 weight oil is to thick for the v-10's oil injectors. I would change it more then 2 times a year. When u get it changed at lube stop they say every 3k or 4 months. Atleast that is what it says one there stickers that they put on ur winshield. Ud be fine with 3 times or 4 at the most i think.
