List of compatible turbos for my truck

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about turbo'ing, but I have no idea what turbos can be used on the truck. I'd like to call around locally to see what they got, but I have no idea what kind of turbo that can be used. No i dont want a new one, I either want a rebuilt one or a used one. I know ATS and Banks makes good turbos, but I wanna find something local here that I can go to a autowrecker and take from there for like 500$ or something.

Also....I was thinking about this before, if I wanted to take regular steel pipe and get a tube bender, is it possible to make my own exhaust from this pipe or does it have to be a special kind of metal? I know stainless steel is a good idea, but really expensive I hear?

That is an ATS turbo laying up side down so the mount can be seen.
That is going to be hard to make.
There are several pieces in the exhaust manifold to turbo piping that are going to be just as hard to make.

The problem is not getting the exhaust to the turbo, it is the amount of room you have to make the connections in.

So....how does someone go about figuring out how to fit one of these in there?

My best answer to that is, that is why ATS wants 2000 dollars for a turbo system that bolts right on.

I am not going to say it can't be done, but I need my truck running every day.
An ATS install is Saturday afternoon long with air tools.

Hmm sounds good, but what about exhaust? Dont you need a special exhaust to make it work? I've read some guys installing their own exhaust and they encountered rusted bolts and such. When you order that turbo, does that include all the piping? Or I should just go and check that out myself...

Most of the turbo kits do include exhaust as part of the package.

Yes they will, as long as the 7.3 is not a powerstroke, since thats a comptetely different animal.

I have the same van and that OD light will flash for a lot of reasons. My flex plate broke too and the OD light flashed.Fixed the flex plate and hooked the battery back up and no more flash. Another time it flashed because of a short in my overhead light wiring. Made the trans go crazy. A question for more experienced guys is can you put a turbo somewhere after the y pipe under the truck and then pipe back up to the intake. The turbo might run cooler if it could be done.

Agemenon, sorry about the trans reply. Just trying to help. The turbo question I asked was for you though. I won't turbo my truck, 280,000 miles. But yours has low miles right. I think it would be cool if you could put your turbo under the truck, away from the heat of the motor. Wouldn't that make the turbo run cooler and the charge air would be cooler to I think. Someone should be able to list the pro's and con's of it.
