shift points...

i have a 89 f150, inline 6, 5spd. normal driving i shift right about 2000 rpms. the motor pulls strong to just over 3000 rpms and after that i get wheel hop and it feels like the motor is kinda fighting itself, like its clogged... is that normal when you get to 3500 rpms +? i plan on doing a mini tune up soon whcih will include a new air and fuel filter, oil / filter change, new exhaust. if this is not normal, will that help this problem?

thanks

the 300 completely runs out of power between 3500 and 3600 RPM. over that and all you're doing is making noise.

Under normal driving I only make it to about 1500-1700 before i shift (didn't know until i got a tach, i swore i was revving that thing to the moon), merging onto the highway it may see 3000.

A low rev motor that creates its peak torque before you get to 2000.
