95 f250 cluster swap questions Mileage???
I have a 95 F250 4x4 351w auto tranny. It's a work truck model, so it dosent have a tach in the cluster. When and if I swap the cluster out what happens to my trucks mileage/ odometer reading? Does the new cluster display my trucks mileage or the previous trucks mileage?
Where is the mileage number stored?
Thanks, any help on thes would be greatly appreciated.

IIRC = "if I recall correctly", it's just a shortcut for a few words.
Anyway, there are several ways to handle the mileage issue. The first method is to take your speedometer out of your cluster, and place it into the new or replacement cluster.
Second, a Ford dealer with a clue can program your odometer. In leu such a dealer there are many mail order places that will take your PSOM module that's inside, and program the mileage figure you send to them, assuming it's written and notorized to be correct.
The third option is to keep a log of all the clusters that have passed through your vehicle, with starting and ending mileage. This is what I've done because my original cluster keeps getting swapped out for other, non F-series clusters. Right now I have a digital windstar cluster in there. A while back I had a late 80's T-bird digital cluster. I've had about 8 clusters in my crewcab so in my log is the date installed and the mileage, then date removed and the mileage.
I have a minor inaccuracy because on of the digital clusters I had installed short circuited the instant I started the truck on the way home from Dayton Ohio, and refused to display anything at all. So what I've done was take the last mileage reading which was when I left the house to head out there, and add the mapquest-provided mileage door to door twice, since I drove there, then back. I'm sure mapquest didn't have it precise even though I didn't get lost, but it's close enough.
Should I ever sell my crewcab I can assure you that anyone interested in buying it isn't going to care about a 15-20 mile inaccuracy, considering the sum of all the clusters is well over 450K
Anyway, a log is a really good method to handle these sorts of things. When you sell the vehicle, you give the new owner the log and explain that the cluster was replaced because you wanted a tach and here is the mileage of the old cluster plus the displayed mileage of the new cluster minus the new cluster's display upon installation.
Then you once again have true mileage. You're not the only person on the planet who's replaced a cluster.
