I have a black truck and struggled with the same question..."to smoke or not to smoke?" I ended up ordering the red ones and they look great. And yes, they are VERY bright.
Just for information there is no difference in brightness between brake lights and turn signals, they use the same circuit, therefor they both apply power to the same lighting device. There is however a difference between tail lights and brake/turn, seperate circuits.
SpringerPop, I don't know how much they sell for but GROTE lighting makes a factory replacement tail light, my local auto store even stocks them.
I finally broke down and picked up a set of these tail lights. They look and work awesome, not to mention a pretty good price. It took me three different sets of lights before I finally found a set that I am happy with.
my buddy took his to the local bodyshop and they mixed up some clear coat with alittle black coloring and shot the clear coat over his headlights and taillights. gave they the smoke look. they turned out pretty nice.

I bought a set of these also from this seller. He ships pretty fast. They look and work great on white !! They are not smoked though. From my research they look the same as the Recon brand that lists for over $300. One tip on these lights is, if they don't seem to work the first time, just flip the plug over before you panic.
I tinted my stock taillights with a spray called NIGHT SHADE. you just prep the light, and spray it on. dries in about a half hour. you can coat it to the shade you want. i wanted it dark. at night, the taillights still light up bright.
YOU CAN NOT REMOVE IT FROM THE LIGHTS.
Got'ta thank "dfuser" for Great Service!!!! Seems I just got off the phone with em & my taillights showed up. Took me a minute than I finally got smarter than the lights & got em in. Here's the ones I bought. http://www.dfuser.com/catalog/9906-f...blacksmoke.php
I'll try & get a pick up tomorrow. (couldn't wait & put them in tonight after bowling league.. 9pm)
