I was thinking about smoking the lights since the truck is black.. However I can't find a soul that makes smoked Fog Lights, and considering they make the light visibility less.. I came to the conclusion that I'm not going to do it.. The front end looks perfectly fine with the factory head lights/signals.. Might go clear on the signals however.. One problem is the back tail lights.. They have the same dull boring blah look that the 3rd brake light had.. So I was looking at these..
I think you will definitely want to go with smoked tails since your truck is black. I bought my clear ones off of ebay because I didn’t know they made them in smoke.
Dfuser sells them in red, clear and smoke on his web site. I ended up spraying mine with VHT Nite-Shades, we’ll see how this stuff holds up, if it scratches or peels or whatever.. I will replace them with smoked ones. Here's the before/after pics:
Well my there's two factors that concern me.. Don't get me wrong, the smoke is beautiful.. It would for sure go well with my lines.. However as stubborn as Texas is, I don't want them using smoked tail lights as a reason an accident occured..
Come on Storm, you don't want the smoked ones because that's what TNT has and you don't want to copy off him
And as far as I know nobody can give you a hard time because the lights are DOT approved. If I were you I would get the smoked ones, or the ones like BigSky.
Copy TNT? Pfft TNT got the idea from me.. I was the first to come up with smoking out the lights.. I remember.. It was dinner at Applebee's.. Sheesh ya'll do know TNT and I are bestfriends..
Well this is my personal opinion but I would just smoke the stock tailights with transparent vinyl. You can alway just take it off if you ever get tired of it and it stil maintains a clean look if you apply it correctly (there are many who don't lay vinyl well over curved pieces). Besides it will work out cheapaer for you as well.
I did the tails on my F-250 with vinyl and I was happy with how they turned out. I have also done taillights with Night Shades before as well but it doesn't turn out as consistent with its coverage and I have noticed it tends to fade a little bit over time.
Anyhow here is what my tails look like for reference:
Question for you guys with these tail lights. Are the lights visible enough during the day light hours? By this I mean, if you have your foot on the brake and a turn signal on at the same time is there enough difference in brightness that you can distinguish the two? Same thing at night with your parking lights on, is there a very noticeble flash when a turn signal is on?
OK.....took some pics. I also took a video. The video shows it much better. I will have to learn how to post a link....so I need to have it hosted so I can do that.
KenneB, if you PM a email address I can send the video directly to you if you want too see it soon.
