Smile Banks Power Pack?

Banks is known for there exelent diesel proformance, but they have entered the gas market and have developed a "power pack" for the 460efi. With claims of +68hp and +98lb-ft of torque, along with 15% better mpg, and cuting the 0-60 by up to as much a 24%. If so it is preaty impressive for only adding their air ram, headers, muffler, and custom exhaust. If anyone has any experence with this power pack please let me know how it worked out for you because this looks great on paper but it could very well not be worth it in reality. It looks like a good investment, but what do I know anyways I'm just a punk kid. Thanks!!!

My Dad put the entire Banks Power pack on one of his motorhomes (with 460) and it performed as advertised. It was quite impressive. This was on a 37ft. class A motor home. One big hill in particular that we drive over many times a year the rig would only go up it 25 mph before and 50 after. It got 10 mpg if you went 55, pulling a trailer. They have had the power packs for at least 10 years. It works, but its like $1700.

I've had the complete system on for nearly ten years and am satisfied with it but don't know if it made that much difference. Had the headers replaced about two years ago, cost aboput $200 with the warranty, now the mufflewr needs doing

Has anyone but one on a dyno after puting the pack on because, like I said it looks great on paper, but so did Mike the dog fighter before he has a dog fighter. The other thing is, is it hard to instal because there almost has to be a catch some where. Those numbers and all it is, is a air ram and a exhaust system. Well any imput is good imput so thanks.

I think your better off building your own system to your liking. it will be half the price and prob better. Buy a set headers for your truck, and have a custom exhaust shop finish a system for you, and then buy a cold air intake, and it should do the same thing

I was thinking along he same lines. Anyone know if the Banks headers can be bought seperatly so that this could be done?

Well thats where you sort of run into your problems as well. those headers are $900-$1100 alone depending on whether or not you need the y-pipe. I tried going this route, and to me, its just not worth it. I would rather replace a set of Doug Thorleys once every 5 years then spend over $900 on a set of headers. There nice, but not worth it to me, it will cost you an arm and a nut. good luck tho

Funny, I just talked to banks today about the two options they have for my 1997 F350 4x4 460. The cat back system is about $700 and the one with headers is $2000. I read the the test results on their website but it did not specify if the test truck they used was speed density or mass air type system. As I recall, and correct me if I a wrong, the Califorina 7.5's were mass air trucks and the 48 state trucks were all speed density. Usually, it's more difficult to get realize huge improvements with intake and exhaust mods on a speed density truck.

To Anyone who has used either of these kits: was your truck a speed density or mass air type truck?

Thanks

Just be sure you get the headers for motorhomes, not racing. There is considerable differences in hp and torque ranges.

if you get the one for for the catalytic you can always just make an adapter where the cat bolts up (4 bolts),the adapter then goes into to dual exhausts into the back or cut the adapter completley off and weld the duals,,,dump the cat if you wish, thats what i did(speed density1992) ,,,you will of course not mess with the oxygen sensor hole, you need that ,,1993and up models use different air pump manifolds not sure on how banks make those headers

I put the Banks complete set on mine a couple of years ago and while it did help, the gain was only in the higher rpm range that typically only comes into play when climbing grades or passing. On flatland I can't tell much difference and there was absolutely no difference in fuel economy. But I was looking to get rid of the factory exhaust manifolds as I was beginning to get an exhaust leak.

Yah I personaly think that after the reserch that I have done it would be better to get a cold air intake than a air ram on a 460 because of the speeds of the air moving and the rpms to make the air ram effective.
