We had rain the other night for the first time in a long time. Anyway, I knew my steering was bad, but in the rain was just downright dangerous. I had read someplace that the steering box from a 2002-3 truck was better than the 1999. Anybody else heard that as well?
My steering box has a lot of play but also is very stiff to turn. Thats why I'm going to replace it.
One more thing. My shocks are probably original so I'm going to change them out as well. Any suggestions?
Ok here goes my wonderful story
My gear box has been leaking for about a month, the leak was coming from the top cover. I shopped around to see if I could save some $$$ and found a nice path: O'reilly Autoparts 180.00 ish + free shipping + no sales tax (no stores or offices in NY) Brother inlaw works at a Dodge dealer that also has Ford dealerships. Labor= dinner & beer.
Inlaw goes to place pitman arm on sector shaft and finds it a bit tight, he began to hammer it on and shatters the gear box case. Now I need a new gear box and can not return the damaged one or get the core money back. To add to this I went to test my home furnace thirty minutes before he called me about the box and the furnace will not fire up.
I feel like a old horse that needs to be shot.

Someone that has worse luck than me! Do you have a gas or oil furnace?
Will try a yard for the core. The furnace is gas. All it does is click from the thermostat change and circulation pumps turn on, no exhaust fan or pilot light.

Not to be a smart A#$ but did you make sure the breaker in the panel, and or the disconnect witch for the airhandler is on? Even gas airhandler s need a 120 volt circuit.
Yes checked all breakers. It is getting power. Ther controller might be the problem. I have left a message with the people that installed the unit. Thanks for the help guys. Tuesday I will give an update on the gear box. This one will be a Ford reman.

Have you tryed adjusting the steering box? I adjusted mine I had a little side to side play I also adjusted the threaded joint from the pit arm untill I got my wheel centered and a very small amount of play my truck has 83,000 on it.

I did. To be honest, it made the problem worse. I've read on here to leave the sector shaft adjustment alone. Good advice right there.
