I made the adjustment and think that it either caused or contributed to the box leaking. Just my.02

When I had my 84 F250 I bought a new reman. steering box from napa right out of the box I had to adjust the steering box. As I had way to much side to side play I got all the play out of the steering wheel but after that my steering was very touchy. LOL anyone who drove my truck always was all over the road unless they just sat back and relaxed and drove. I didnt have a steering stablizer so that may have been a problem. On my 02 I adjusted it cause I had to much side to side play its been fine since no problems steering is great. Why arent you supposed to adjust it?

You can tighten too much and cause premature wear of the steering gear. Thats what I did. I still had about two inches of play in the wheel but it got way too tight to steer. In the rain....well..lets just say its a white knuckle affair

Ya I hope mines not over tight I know that my steering wheel will still return on its own so I hope that it will be ok. I dont know how many miles you have but maybe you need to replace your box. If mine last till 150,000 or 200,000 miles ill be happy.
