Abs light abs question?

1997 F-150 Ok the bum I that traded me this truck must have burned the abs light and check engine light on purpose. Pulled cluster and replaced lights. Anyway, the abs light is on also with the brake light. Took it to my buddy at the Ford dealer to see what sensor might be bad and the scanner wont link up to the abs system. Go figure. I noticed there are no front abs sensors or wires. Aren't there supposed to be front abs on these trucks? Thought it might be possible he took it off. Would this just have rear abs off the rear end housing?

The light could be on just for the simple reason that your brake fluid is low.

Other than that...I would just unplug the light again :missingt RABS is a joke anyways...

no brake fluid is fine. Still wondering if supposed to have front abs or not? I know it would be easy just to unplug both lights since the breaks work fine I just like to have things working right

No, it probably wasn't equipped with 4-wheel ABS. Not many of these trucks were.

Hopefully, it is just the diff. sensor which is a $20 buck 10 minute change, as opposed to the Rabs module which is a $500 plus change out.

The first thing to check is the wiring connector at the master cylinder. Is it clean and tight? Also there was a thread on another forum page where a guy had this problem and it turned out to be a faulty fluid level sensor. If you look under the dash there should be a black wire with an orange stripe, this is the RABS diagnostic wire. With the ignition "on" and the ABS light on if you ground this wire the ABS light should blink out any error codes. Another simple check is to make sure both rear brake lights work. Good luck with it as it can be a real PITA to cure.

My ABS light is staying on after startup, since the Ford Dealer installed that 'Flames' mod.
Is that related or just co-oincedental?

I'm sure he's talking about the cruise control switch recall....I can't see that affecting your ABS unless the monkeys at Ford were mucking around where they weren't supposed to.

Right, thanks Brad. For the life of me, when I wrote that post, I couldnt think of why we had to have that switch replaced other than a fire.
In fact, when I brought the truck home after the mod was installed, I left it parked out in the field.....just in case!

Glad to know the Switch is OK and not part of my ongoing CC problem.
