Maybe I am all messed up from driving a T18 for 10 years, but I sure feel like my shifter pattern on my M5 is like this: \-\-\ instead of |-|-|.
If you hold full left and come down out of 1st to hit 2nd there is a catch of some king that prevents the shift. SO you have to go over to the right just a tad to find 2nd and then pull down. As for 3rd, once you find the gate, you have to push up and towards the steering wheel to get to go in smooth.
basicaly, if you try to shift in the double H pattern you fight getting gears.
Remove the three screws at the top, underneath are two pins they should be round. if worn replace and don't forget to stake the new ones to hold them in.
If you are talking about the three rubber plugs on top , I'm not sure. There's not much room and the top of the tranny has to be lifted about 1" at the rear for them to clear.
Well, after more testing, BESIDES the shift pattern, ENGINE NOT RUNNING, I notice that my truck would not ROLL out of my driveway with my clutch to the floor - I yanked the stick out of 1st and it jarred into nuetral and started rolling.....
....yes I need a slave which really erks me.
I will check the pins as you say when I have the trans down to do the slave I guess.....
Funny though, some driving events it shifts fine and the clutch seems to work, other times you fight it.
