I think it's about time to do the brakes on the truck. Should I even attempt to do them myself? Or should I take it to a shop? I have done brakes before but never on a Superduty. If I take it to a shop what would I expect to pay?? Can anyone help me out? Part numbers? Anything?
Its pretty easy. I did my fronts a month or so ago, and will be doing my rears before the snow flies. I've only done brakes twice on a car and twice on motorcycles, so I'm not like the guy above who does it all the time!
I would love to do this especially since it is such an easy upgrade...But unfortunately it's not in the budget right now...
So anyway, What kind of pads would you guys recommend? I have looked on the net and there are several types Semi-metallic, ceramic, severe duty etc.. etc...I called Ford and they quoted me 66.00/Pair...The Powerstrokeshop price was about 93.00 W/Shipping (not sure if this is per pair or a hole set seems kind of high to be just a pair but the description doesn't specify.) NAPA has ceramic for 74.00/pair....Not sure what to get??
When I buy brakes I will go to napa and purchase their brakes they are better than ford in my opinion ask them for the medium quality brake pads they will know what your talking about. because the cheap ones wear out to quick and the expensive ones will eat your rotors up quick. doesn't have to be just napa any parts house does the same thing.good luck.

Thanks again for the info.

Generally when you replace brakes on a vehicle and you are sticking with OEM parts, you want to replace the pads with the same type that came on the vehicle. In this case your truck came with "semi-metallic" pads, and that is the type you want to replace them with. The "Ceramic" pads have less dusting but may not take the abuse of semi-metallic pads and may not stop as well in all conditions. Ceramic pads were desinged maninly to prevent brake dust and squeal, but generally not the high brake demands that your truck has. Inexpensive organic (non-metalic) pads will wear out very quickly with your trucks braking requirements. Brake pad material is chosen based on the braking demands and temprature range your vehicles brakes are most likely to be operated in.
