I need to work on my Super Duty's rear axle so lowering and removing the spare tire/wheel would give me more room to work. I've never had a flat before so I'm reading the instructions (!) and it says there's a key/lock for it in the glove box. It's not in there! I looked in the 'tube' where the tool goes and it appears to have a pentagram inlet so the key must look something like that.
Does anybody know if Ford Dealers have these available or if Ford stashes them another place on the Super Duty's?
BTW, I was most pleased my dealer didn't steal the spare...
Ruh roh. I think there was a post somewhere about how a guy got his spare tire lock off without destroying anything. I think that might be your best bet.
They have keys but you have to go through them to find the right one.. The keys aren't identical for stealing purposes.. If that tire is up against the bed, there's no real way to get that lift loose.. We ended up having to grind it off because the key got stuck in my buddies tube..
You could call the key manufacturer and see if the original owner of your truck registered it with them. The key comes with a little card that has the VIN number and everything on it, and you fill out your name/adress and send it in. Then they have it on record what key matches that specific VIN number. For those of you that haven't done this, here is a reminder to do so
I don't have the card with the companies contact info in my truck right now, but I'll try to remember to look it up when I get home tonight if noone else has posted it.
It's a McGard, Inc. lock and it does have a card with the codes on it plus one to complete the owners info and mail in. Guess I can still do that after 2 1/2 years!
I wonder if anyone has registered that key. Maybe I'll mail the one in from my 02. I might win a prize for being the first Ford owner to ever send one in.
I sent mine in when I was sending in all my other warranty registration stuff for my lift, exhaust, etc. Figured it wasn't exactly difficult to do, and it might save me or someone else a headache in the future. I believe it even had pre-paid postage.
In case anyone comes across this thread and needs their contact information here it is.
