I heard from a guy that if you have power locks and or keyless entry your truck is wired for the Code Keypad gizzmo above the drivers door handle, and the keypad is available at the dealer for 85 dollars has anyone tried this or investigated? Would come in handy just have to remmember code, no keys
The aftermarket key pad is a stick-on. It is NOT hard wired. So it work just like your key fob. Only now you have to put in a code to unlock the doors.
Function 12 is right. The add on keypad is a wireless transmitter that you program in the same way as a keyfob (except you have to enter the code instead of just hitting one button). It just sticks to the side of the truck using double sided tape.
If you are interested in buying one check ebay. I bought mine on there for around $60, I believe most Ford dealers list price is around $120.
It's wireless? Hmm what kinda batteries do they use? I have to mash the buttons pretty hard on mine. Would also be cool to put another one on the pass. side.
If the one on your truck is only about 1/8" tall then it is the factory installed one and it is har wired. If it is about 3/8-1/2" tall then it is the stick on one that works wirelessly just like a keyfob. You can install them on both sides if you want (I'm pretty sure the trucks can have up to 4 keyfobs, the two door keypads would take up two of those spots.
The remote ones take a big flat battery like a garage door opener I believe. You have to pry them apart to replace it.
