I have a 390 engine(or so I think) in my garage. I would like to check the casting # on the crankshaft just to be sure. The guy I bought it from said it was a police interceptor. It does have a stock 4-v intake with it.
My problem is I can't find the casting on the crank. I have looked all over it and can't find it. However, on the first counterweight, there is the #13 stamped on one side and the #14 on the other and that is all i see on it. the cranak looks like a 390 and it has 390 rods but I would still like to confim it.
P.S. when I bought the engine I also received a holly 750-dual feed carb. is that a little too big for this engine. should I trade it in for a 600-650 carb??
If I remember correctly, it should be on one of the rod throws. Examine all the rod throws and you should see a 3/8" stamp on one of them.
Because of the cost of a used Holley 4v (about $40), I'd just buy a 600cfm vac sec and rebuild it. Then try it out. The Holley is nice because of the tunablity of it. The vac sec should give you the best overall performance, but it would be nice to try them both and compare.
