Clutch troubles
I have a 65 F250 4X4 with a 390 and NP435. I have an 11 inch 3 finger clutch in it now. It needs to be replaced and I'd like to go heavier. The parts store lists a 12 inch, can I bolt this to the same flywheel I have the 11 inch on now, or will i need another?

Bill, you might get lucky on the pattern. Some older ford trucks with the FE engine had a flywheel that was drilled for an 11 1/2 long style pressure plate. The holes for which are in the right place for some 12 diaphram clutch covers. The 12 inch diaphram clutch was used on some of the mid 70s 400 and 429/460 truck engines. My 12 inch clutch is from centerforce but my 67 wheel did not have the pattern I needed and had to be drilled. I have been told that a 429 wheel fits the FE cranks and is zero-balanced like a 390 wheel but have not tried this to verify. DF

I bought a 12" from Napa and it didn't fit. I upgraded to a 428 crank and McLeod 428 billit steel flywheel and it fit. So I ordered a 12" CF dual friction from Jegs and it fit too. Neither one fit the old flywheel.
By the way, the pedal feel on the CF is excellent.
