Well! We don't all get stidkies but I just went through the same thing as cowmilker. I was frustrated. Now I can stop on a dime and give you 9 cents change. Now, no matter what, don't tell me about the oil puddle, it's just the darn filter which has vibrated loose. Oil change Thursday and a nic eblack bath. GOODY!
my brakes suck!!!! i was so very glad to hear about this fix, but my local dealership had to order one, and i needed one now as stopping the truck by itself is dangerous, not to mention w/a trailer. So, i called my local napa and crossed the ford #, and they had a reman that spanned years94-97. it was not labeled a "zero loss booster" specifically, but i bought it anyway on their recommendation. my brakes are somewhat better, but still suck and are very not confidence inspiring. do i have other problems or did i buy another subpar booster?
stoby, describe your brake problem. Do they lock up if you barely touch them? Or is the pedal hard, and non responsive? If it's a hard pedal and non responsive, it's gonna be the vacuum pump, not the booster.
hey rubber duck=let's start out by restating that the truck has a 5.9 cummins, and i am running the cummins vacuum pump. i did plug in my vacuum gauge(w the engine running of course) and had 28 lbs of vacuum. now to the pedal: it is very "mushy" for about the first half of the throw with very little braking "feel". it does have a little pedal after that, but it has pretty decent pedal and braking if i pump the pedal once and then apply the brakes. this, however, is no way to drive and definitely not the way to mske a "panic" stop
To me that sounds like the rear brakes are out of adjustment. Most people don't realize how much pedal you lose when they are out. Adjust them up and then beat the crap out of the backing plate with a hammer after adjusting them. Most likely you will have to do this a few times before you will have the slight drag you are looking for when adjusted properly. Your pedal should increase a bunch, and your e-brake should tighten at the top of the pedal. Win/Win
I have no brakes right now, I just figured it was crappy brake fluid. So should I get one of these, and is there anyway to do a group buy? Also does International offer anything like this for a lower price then ford?
If you have no brakes, you have bigger problems than just the booster. Tell us exactly what your brakes are doing so we can better help you. Group buy, I have no idea about. I wouldn't think IH would have these as they are a Ford part, not IH.
Well when I got it I drove it back from Sacramento and under power I'd have brakes but if I double pumped the pedal it would go straight to the floor. After talking to a few shops locally they determined it was either the fluid was bad and needs to be bled out or there's something contaminating the fluid and everything in the braking system needs to be replaced to the tune of 1200 bucks.
i have some braking troubles when i hit them the trucks shakes bad and i thought hmm front warp? so i turned them and put new pads on helped a little but once you brake and almost to a stop it starts to shake maybe the rear need turned? need adjustment?
