no you didnt confuse this ole hillbilly, i know that tire diameter affects speedometer reading, and as far as the drive gear goes i cant say that i've ever seen a c-6 with a removable gear, all of em i've seen are machined into the output shaft, i figure 1000 revolutions is good to start with, but i was wondering if that applied to our trucks, preciate teh help though, that calculator is something thats a favorite now for sure
The C6 output shaft is fixed as stated. The nylon gear on the speedo drive is changeable. The Speedo (dash) is calibrated to either 15/16 rev of the C6 tail shaft to 1 rev of the cable (don't remember the exact #). I found this out when I purchased a digital speedo for my 68. This is a std that all speedo are calibrated too. The digital speedo I purchased can compensate for any tire size. All you have to do is push a button and drive 2 mi, then push the button again.
C-6 with short cast iron hsg used on trucks had the drive and driven gear made of steel, last short C-6 ext hsg was aluminum same length as iron hsg it used a car type plug-in speedo w/a nylon gear. Speedo plugged in on the drivers side. Iron truck hsg speedo screws in on the passenger side.
Are we having fun yet?
