You change the speedo gear in the side of the tranny. Follow the cable to the tranny, remove small retaining nut and pull it out. Take note of the gear tooth slant and count them. It is important to try to find out how much it is off before trying to correct it.

Report your tooth count, slant, and how far it's off and we will try to help you correct the issue.

Try this calculator. the gear on the cable is the driven gear, inside trans is drive gear.

you need to count the drive gear (inside trans) because you are trying to find the new driven gear.

Your welcome
To count the gear teeth you will need to have the truck jacked up and turn the wheel and count the end of each tooth. Or take a chance on the count being 9, i have three c6 trans and they each have 9 teeth machined into the output shaft.

It already there 1000 or look here, your right different size tire would change that number. Sorry that is for tire revolutions, the the artical above the calculator says 1000 is good starting point for speedo.

Just wondering, is it possible to count the cable gear and make the swap without doing the other?

Well i don't think they make to many options for the drive gear, some drive gears are mechined into the rear main shaft of the trans.
The calculator does give you the option to find either one so i would say yes if the drive gear is removable, but i am not 100% on that.
