Modified PCM?

Today I drove 12 miles and recorded some data. The dealer is under the impression that my truck may have a tuner in it. Again, this is all news to me since I bought the truck this past July.

I am trying to get the No Start after Warm issue resolved on the Factory 100,000/5 year warranty.

Before I go and have the dealer reflash my truck with the latest PCM could someone tell what these numbers look like? As in modded' unmodded?

While running at 65 MPH under Cruise Control, I saw
1800 RPM
6-10 lbs of BOOST
800-900 EGT

How's is this in comparision?

I think that's a little much boost for the RPM's and speed, maybe a tad high on EGT's too, although your larger tires may have more affect than I know. Why does the dealer think your truck has a tuner in it? What's his basis? The intake and exhaust? He should be able to hook it up and tell you, but he'd have to prove it to me ON PAPER before I'd let him deny anything. You might want to consider another dealer since it sounds like this one is trying to give you a run around, which usually means they don't want to work on it to start with.

Yea, I agree with you on the run around. Maybe this dealership has done to much warranty work during this period, who knows.

The basis was more or less determined during a test drive by a Ford tech. He was explaining that just a litte diesel off the line produced 20 lbs of boost effortlessly. But, no hard data to prove it.

Even at WOT there is very little black smoke.

But this is what made them look a little deeper I guess and discovered that I did not have a cat on the truck. Again, bought it this way from a dealer. They refuse warranty service. So now I am in the middle of trying to get this dealer I bought it from to return the truck to stock to keep my warranty program valid...

This includes not only installing a cat, but reflashing the PCM to spec..

I still do not think this truck is tuned.

if you do not have a tuner then how did you record datalogger?? Cannot pinpoint any chip or tune based on theose numbers because there are too many variables, although I would not expect to see the boost and EGT that high on flat ground on cruise. I would expect closer 4-500*F and almost no boost or less than 5PSI.. Very curiuos on the datalogeer question though..

you have a lift and intake so ford can deny you service if they chose to, I cannot believe you bought cat free truck from a dealer-we had one in last week-an 02 w/ a snapped off turbin shaft 6" lift 5" exhaust w/ no cat ,full guages,MGP regulator and the kid said he bought it from a dealer that way..no way did he w/ all of that exspecially since the dealer went out of bussiness a few months ago and the exhaust was brand new..like a week ago.. so they can have their suspicions w/ so many aftermarket parts.. but on the 7.3 the board in the pcm was sanded and chip cover was missing so he just took it out and took the 40's off it..looked kinda funny w/a huge lift 6" bushwackers and stock tires!!! we told him to contact the attourney general or BBB too report the dealer that sold him a modified truck and a FORD ESP which they cannot legally do...so fight it if you truck is stock..

We are doing this now. The truck had a new inspection sticker slapped on it in this condition too.

No data logger used, just my noting the conditions as I drove down the road.

You better believe it. From a big dealer too. I've got all the facts on paper from the time the truck was brought in for sale, serviced under warrant via Fords OASIS as the truck is TODAY and then sold to me. They see this too and are wanting a PEACEFUL solution.

they will fix it, or have to pay for it to be back to stock or buy it back from you..

so you have a pre-turbo pyrometer,MGP guages and no flash tuner?? Highly unlikely but possible.. I am sure they will fix it if you speak loud enough, but you may be w/out your truck for being a PITA for a while.

Why is this "highly unlikely"? I know plenty of people that have a full suite of gauges on an otherwise stock truck. They tow and want to know what's going on....

My truck runs under 5lbs boost on flat ground at 65 mph. 6-10 lbs sounds tuned to me. I ran a diablosport predator for a short while on the tow tune and didn't even boost that high at 65 mph with no load.

depends on conditions. sometimes when cruising at a steady 70mph i will see almost no boost 1-3 psi, and a cool 600* on the pyro.
then the next day the wind might be blowing different or the temperature is different, and at the same speed i will see 900-1000* and 10-11 psi boost..

it varies a lot a slight grade, even one too slight to see with your eye will load the engine enough to gain 400 degrees and 5-8psi

Do you have good gauges, know some one that could calibrate them, seen a lot of gauges that read really bad. Can the dealer check with there gauges.

Correct me if I am wrong, but my seat o' pants meter is pretty sensitive and you can tell pretty easily bewteen a tuned and untuned 6.0. I suggest you take a similar stock truck for a ride, then yours and if there is a signifigant difference viola!! I always feel the diffrence bewteen stock and tuned.
