Forgive the hijack....

Hey Chris, Brandon says that you and I need to get together to plan out a design for a "dual air intake". He told me what you were thinking about with two AFE's

I've been mulling over "battery relocation" and a custom fabbed fiberglass enclosure with two of the "in current design mode" Donaldson 6637 Powercores, and coupling that with a 10" 1200 cfm fan feeding the filter enclosure. What do you think?

Yeah, I got as far as relocating the vacuume canister, picked up a replacement battery terminal and material for a DIY dual battery tray. Then it hit me, why am I doing this?! My current filter flows more air than my truck will ever use! I don't know, I may pick it up later on.

Brandon, I can go pick another one up if you haven't already, let me know.

Went down and got the wire and the LED to do this mod today but could not find a 500ma inline fuse. The guy at RS was dumbfounded. Does anyone have a part number for the fuse? I ended up getting a one amp fuse and an inline holder. Will that work?

1 amp fuse will be fine. 500ma is a 1/2 amp fuse. You'll be fine with a one amp fuse.

Along these same lines...

Has anyone considered adding a switch in-line between the PCM and GPR to DISable the GPR when not needed? No need to eat up the current if it's not needed.

They don't come on all the time, since I added the led, I've noticed once the truck is warm, no glow plug activation. I don't think I'd mess with disabling it. If the truck thinks it needs the glow plugs, it probably does.

I agree with Riceman - I've noticed the same thing since hooking up the LED i.e. the GPR does not operate at all when warm, even when the WTS light comes on for a few seconds (odd!!).

The other thing I've noticed is how long the GPR stays on after starting the engine when it's really cold out - we had a sub-32 degree morning recently and the LED only went out about 3 minutes after leaving the house.

I added this LED over the weekend - works great. It's interesting to see just how long the glow plugs stay on after starting in cold weather. It was below freezing overnight during the weekend and the light stayed on a full 3 minutes after starting the engine early Sunday morning.

Since I can't remember waiting for the "wait-to-start" light to go out (I fire it up identically to my gasser), I know I don't need glow plugs here in sunny SoCal. I wouldn't ever go so far as to completely disable the glow plug relay, as on rare occasions it gets cold here, but as I said, no need to burn the current if you don't need to.

I'll add the disable switch at the same time I install that LED to indicate real current is available to the glow plugs.

Of course, if I lived in Colorado, my thinking would likely be MUCH different... :-))

Well I am in Colorado...And this morning, it was about 8* outside...I sat there and cycled the ignition switch aboiut 3 times just to "keep the glow plugs going" DOH!!!! I didn't know the GP's stayed on a while longer....OK...Time for me to get my parts now for the GPR light.

Thanks for the write up on this!!

HA!!! Went to RS's site to check out the LED, and just for grins...(And I didn't want to drive into town), I checked it out in my basket...The LED is $1.99....Shipping is $6.05! hehe guess I drive into town later.
