led bulbs

I'm trying to re-place all my 194 bulbs with led's. I know what the amber leds in an amber lense looks like, but what about red leds with a red lens?
I'm trying to get brighter lights on my "chicken lights" on a '07 Pete. I have about 50 lights on the air breathers and under the cab and sleeper. Should I just use white leds in all the sockets or should I use red under red lenses and amber under an amber lens?
Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated!!
This will also cut down my amperage requirements and can add more lights.

thanks, mr dave

Dave, i've found the lights we have on our trucks that you get a more pure color by using the matching color bulb with the lense, but I have also found that a white led with any color lense is a little brighter. The white bulbs just seem a little brighter when they burn. I have also found that, although a little more pricey, the grote led lights are brighter and last a little longer for us. The only other thing I have noticed is that the cluster led's are the best....brighter and more attractive!

Get some Luxeon leds they are the brightest leds out there, Still a bit pricey but if you want to blind them, those are the ones!! Definately white with the highest MCD rating you can get and when you wire them use the ressitor that gets them as close to or a c-hair over the MA rating, that will make for the brightest lights. http://www.ledsupply.com/reca.php For calculator

If you make it to Orlando stop by this place you will be leaving with a pile of stuff I guarantee it!! The website isn't the best, but give them a call they have the best prices on everything, Run that marine grade wire for your lights and they will last a million miles no problem.

You can get chicken lights with led's in them already. Pretty much any light on your truck now, you can get in a replacement led. It's not just a bulb, it's the whole lamp. 4 or 5 diode Millenium lights for cab and bunk, 2 diode Millenium lights for the air cleaners, amber for front, red for rear. Roof lights, uh, can't think of how many off the top of my head, but you know the ones, the "watermelon" lights. Some guys use them for chicken lights too.

Yeah they are like $22.00 and pretty much all of them are overpriced. You can wire up a project board and make your own for a lot cheaper, and you can put the brightness in that you want!! It's pretty easy to make your own for 1157/56 break the glass out of the base. The cathode goes to the outer(ground)metal, the anodes to the resistor(positive)center contact, melt out the solder in the center of the base, insert the resistor solder it in and clip off the excess, You can put as many leds in as you can pack in it. Even different colored if you wanted, kind of like the old blue dot lens but from inside!! A little bit of time and some solder and you could have ones even Barjan didn't think of.

Direct Replacement

Blue Beast,
Is anyone making direct replacement LED bulbs for my 1982 F250 where it uses the same kind of socket connector. In other words you just swap them out? (do I still need a resistor?). I need 1157s, 1156s, and use 194s for side markers.
Do you also believe I should use the white ones in my rear red colored lenses or go with the same colored bulbs?
Thanks

i posted this in your other thread so ill post here to..
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">every bulb on my truck has been up graded to LED's..even did my gauges and stock cluster with blue LED's..you do need 2 resisters..one for each turn signal..I put mine behind the tail lights to keep them from getting wet..the resister's do get very warm as well..so make sure they don't touch another wire...buy the color bulb for the same color lens..(red lens red bulb) clear lens add what color you want...I have left my parking lights on for 10 hours twice..I thought the truck would never start...turned the key and it fired right up..the LED's use very little current..I even added green eyes to my truck with green LED's.. http://www.superbrightleds.com/carbulb-notes.htm

The premade 1157 and such have the resistor built in, You only need the resistor if
you solder the leds into the 1157 etc base yourself. It is pretty easy to do and a lot
cheaper than premade if you get your leds from somewhere other than the shack!!
http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/index...S&Category=248
Get the highest MCD which is the candle power rating for the brightest leds and
when you calculate your resistor bring it as close to the MA rating as you can for
the brightest output but a bit shorter life(ex 30ma rating run at 28ma as opposed to
a conservative 22ma) It may cut the life a couple thoudsand hours but in a 20,000
hour led what does that really matter?
http://www.ledsupply.com/reca.php to figure out resistor needed!! On that
skycraft page they have a premade 1156 bulb look at the price and then
figure the price for led and resistor of course subtract your time!! If you are
ever in florida doing the theme park thing make a stop at Skycraft the mans
themepark in Orlando!! You will be shipping home a box of goodies from there.
