I have a crack in one of my '06 tow mirror amber side marker lamp lens. I was told at the dealer it is $200 and comes with a new chrome mirror back. Seems like a lot for just a lens. Can you buy just the amber replacement lens? Has anyone tried gluing the lens? How do you remove the lens?
How about the Recon LED lights, are they good quality, and do they work as well as stock?
I have a King Ranch so my covers are painted to match. I had a bird take out my amber cover...I mean GONE. So I contact a pal of mine who has a body shop. He tells me the amber cover can't be removed. If I want to replace it I have to buy the whole back cover. SO I had him order it...then there's the cost of having it painted to match.
The only good news is that now I have a spare painted (the original) cover for the drivers side mirror.
I've been told the Recons are a whole lot cheaper...but I'm not into the smoked look.
Replacement is pretty easy. Adjust the mirror all the way in (towards the window). Use a flashlight and you'll see three tabs. Be careful, they are fragile! Once you depress each of the tabs, the whole back slides off. Simply unplug the tiny 3 wire harness for the amber section and you're ready to remove and replace that amber section.
Recon makes the clear and smoked lense replacements. Fitment is good, probably could be better, but they work well. Price is right at $99 if you don't need to replace the mirror backs.
