I am looking to purchase a 2000-2003 Ford F-250 crew cab, 4x4, PSD. Just wanted to know what kind of mileage these stock trucks get and how it compares to a similar truck with a duramax or cummins.
Thanks.
I am getting 17 MPG in mine and I run in the 80hp setting. Let me tell you though there is only town driving here. Also we run on #1 diesel here just about year round. When I take my truck on the main land and get a tank or two of #2 through it and set foot on the open road I get about 22 MPG in the 80mode.
In my long relationship with my truck, I have come to the conclusion that the Miles Per Gallon ratio is directly related the amount of pressure applied to the pedal by the bottom of your right foot. If you keep the rpm's below 2k and leave the black smoke for someone else, keep your maintance up, and one thing that really improves my mpg is to do all I can to keep boost below 10psi.,you will like the numbers. If you drive like you stole it, you won't. Mine ranges between 18.5 and 13.5. 18.5 trip driving with the wife, 13.5 just having fun.
Im getting around 24 mpg highway average, it has gotten better and it has been worse.
Not sure how the duramax is on fuel, but the cummins are pretty good, might be a tad better then a ford, but then you get stuck with a crappy dodge around it!
15.33 with a load......Just under 290 miles towing a Kawasaki mule (large ATV) and carrying a Lance camper.....2500 +2500 (give or take a few)......End of the trip, put in just under 19 gallons......Came out to 15.33.........
Averaged 60, or 65, or 70.......Just under, or at 2000rpm......Never kicked out of OD, and the entire truck is stock (2000 psd 4X4 crew-cab)......I'm happy.
If its hot out, 11. If its cold, 11. If I drive it like I stole it, 11. If I'm empty, 11. If I hit the scales at 11 tons, 11. Pretty constant, no matter what. The only thing I've seen change it is driving a long time on the 120 race. Then I go down to about 10.5.
powerstroke26,
My truck is a 2002 250 c/c 4x4,
Took a 640 mile round trip weekend before last towing about 1500 pounds in a 5x8 box trailer DP Tuner set on the 60 hp tow mode, got 15.3 mpg for the trip, Back and forth to work last week 20 miles each way mixed highway and city Tuner set on 80 hp economy got 16.8, 400 mile trip empty Friday night tuner set on 80 hp economy got 18.7. these are hand calculated figures based on trying to get the fuel level to the approximate same level each time, so it could be a little better or a little worse, also speed was kept to around 70 to 75, 2000 to 2300 rpms,
Rick
I'm still a newb here, but after having installed an S&B CAI, Magnaflow 4" turbo back exhaust and Edge Evolution 2 programmer/display on any of the three settings, I get about 17 hwy if I'm above 75 mph. At around 70, I can maintain 19 mpg (that's up from stock 17 mpg). It seems to like 2,000 RPM as a sweet spot for crusing. Around town, goosing it, I get closer to 15 mpg.
When I tow a tiny dual jet ski trailer (mere 2,000 lbs) I can barely tell it's back there unless I get a bad tank of fuel.
All this is when I'm NOT driving across IN on I80.....holy cross winds!! That drops any mileage to 14 or so.
